House Koens Jan Luis Curacao

Location


It is located in an area of low density in a nature reserve of Jan Luis near the ostrich farm. An old building was located on the plot and due to the reserve only the same volume was accepted after demolition. The dimensions were restricted to 13.6m x 11.75m.


Concept


Responding to the request from the owners the buiding should be in connecting to the history of Curacao, the famous “Landhuis”, but in a contemporary design en in total independence. The geometry is characterized by a strong essentiality which refers to the landhuis .In order to create continuity between nature and construction, including exterior and interior concrete extends throughout the plant, continuing beyond the windows. They are strong connections between the closed and open space between the white and light, between the built and natural data.

Spaces


In plan, the house forms three units:

The first floor containing the children bedrooms and bathroom, the sitting-tv room and stairs which connect through a vide with the upper livingroom.

The sec ond floor with two units, the living area with porche and pool in an inside- outside relation and the masterbedroom with wic and bathroom.

Everywhere the cool passat wind can enter the house through shutters, even from the first floor to the second floor via the vide. In the vide there is a shutter high 6m with hall connecting the left side to the right side of the house dividing the first floor in two.

Introduction

The house presents the sense of architecture as a material translation of ideas and strongly expressive message in a low budget house. The architect in this work play with a special relationship between the air and light, and put in the center of the project's continuity with the natural elements and landscape. The idea of architecture that inevitably includes elements such as context, the role and composition, but exclusive and essential at a formal level.

Concept


Responding to the request from owner of total independence and complete privacy from the street and neighbours. We created an enclosure, dividing in three areas: sleeping area, living area, pooldeck. The geometry is characterized by a strong essentiality, also evident in the glazed surfaces and in the white coating. The most characteristic factor is the strong presence of nature, water mirrors that reflect vegetation, the transparency of glass and white walls. Furthermore, in order to create continuity between nature and construction, including exterior and interior concrete extends throughout the plant, continuing beyond the windows. They are strong connections between the closed and open space between the white and light, between the built and natural data.
Spaces


In plan, the house forms three units. The central space is 4 meter high and contains the living area and kitchen.To protect this area from the sun the rear has porche with an lower roof 2.4m creating temper light and shadow to provide housing. The front side is provide with vertical high shutters to let the wind go through the house and providing privacy from the street. The other unit left provide the sleeping area with a roof at 2.6m.Right the services.The light in this house is mostly horizontal and continuous, reflected in the walls of the backyards except on the front.

The pool-deck has a large wall for privacy with at the end some vertical small openings to let the wind play in.

House Develter Curacao Cas abou


Location
The house is located in an area of low density with large green spaces and an breathtaking view of 270° on the caribbean sea in Cas Abou, Curacao.
The main route of access, is through the wild nature of Cas abou.


Concept
This house reflects the commitment to the creation of innovative space that asserts clarity, simplicity and elegance.The house signature is marked by a poetic arrangement of clear geometric forms, the subtle use of natural light, the relation open-closed and outside-inside and the subtle fusion of western and eastern architectural traditions.
The minimalism volume of the housing is implanted in de steep rock reducing it to a white volume coming out of the the mountain landscape.
Two themes stand out in the work: the air-light and the relationship with nature. This is evident in the treatment of outdoor spaces. The presence of white to nature for color contrast.
The house is full of light and shadow well agreed and luminous.
In plan, due to the steep terrain the house is divided in three levels, first-level; entrance and garage, second level; the guest-rooms and gym, third level contains the private living-area, master bedroom with wic and bathroom, open kitchen and study-room. All level are connected with an outside stairs. The third-level; living area, master bedroom, study and kitchen.
The highest floor- plan has a succession of three key areas: an open patio on the backside, a covered seating area, and a front-yard with porch and pool.

Within this space raises the ceiling of the central living area to 4 meters. To protect this area from the sun, front and rear, two porches with an lower roof 2.4 m, creating temper light and shadow to provide housing. A symmetry axis that traverses the rectangle widthwise, placed on either side of the main space covered, two strips of services, left the bedrooms , bathroom and wic, right the kitchen, storage, guest-toilet, entrance and study.
The second level:
Contains the same axis that intersect the living area widthwise through the pool. Through a long hall from right to left, primary to let the wind in, because the second level is half build in the rock, we have the access to the guestroom an and the gym. In between the area for services and the tank of the pool.
The first level:
Contains the garage insert in the garden terraces.
Every room has a view on the caribbean sea, even the kitchen area while working on the kitchen-island.
